The LHS wanted $8 for a can of Krylon primer so I got this can of Rust-Oleum engine primer from the home improvement store for $5.50. As you can see, the first test piece was a disaster.

I took a scrap of silver SoLite to the LHS and found the best color match that I could. Later I realized it was for polycarbonate RC car shells, but it didn't hurt the extra engine nacelle I tested it on, just took a lot of coats to get good color.
