In 2002 I was comissioned to build this second B-17 for an exhibit at the Reagan Library about World War II and this is painted as the Memphis Belle. Looking at it now, it's not my best effort and although I tucked these photos in a build somewhre, I hope you don't mind me adding them into their proper places. The planes are still there in the office of the historian.

The supplied canopy was pretty disappointing which is unfortunate as this is really the most valuable part of the kit. It comes in 2 pieces that need to be glued on the center line. The plastic is also thick and heavy at 3.6g. I am going to form my own canopy.

I cut out the center of the plastic cowl and inserted a balsa disk. The disk has a photo of a Wright Cyclone glued to it.

I substituted contest balsa for most of the kit wood. I also used 1/32 balsa for the fuselage sides.
