Who needs a laser cutter. So, who the heck would build a Super Star Series model from Comet? and Why? Well, that would be me and this is the third Super Star kit I have built. The Stuka, well still trying to get her to glide. The P-51 mustang, she flies but not long and still fun to see in the sky. This Piper Cub was a fun fast build, building out of the box with no modifications and yes I will try and get her to fly. This is built for nothing more than nostalgia and because I always wanted to build these kits as a kid. The design is cool but not very good for a freeflight model or any type of flying model without a rocket motor attached. Also, I would never modify this for a lighter build since there are much better J3 kits and plans out there, Herr, Cleveland, Hacker and Sterling/Estes. The directions are not very detailed so you have to figure out the stringer location and the dihedral, no big deal. No my friends, this model is built for pure enjoyment and to see if I can get her to fly with a cardboard tube running down the fuselage. I spend a couple hours cutting out the die cut parts and sanding to shape. Then two days to build at the current stage using Testors cement and not my usual white pva glue, of course no CA glue was used. Once built she is strong as an ox and weighing in at 38 grams as shown. For covering I will not be using the white tissue, sorry I love Yellow Cubs and my spray booth is not set up. I have decided to go through my huge stash of Esaki tissue I bought from Peck many years ago when the business was being sold. All and all this has been a fun build. If you want to build this model without the hassle of die crushed parts, contact DPC models. I believe Dave redesigned the parts and they are now accurate and can be found online.
