A number of methods were used to extend its combat range. Auxillary tanks, winng tanks, fuselage belly modifications, and wing extension with larger tanks. Paper coated drop tanks were even used. The tanks held fuel long enough...until the were empty and dropped. Here is one variant of an auxillary belly tank. |
